What Gives Wine It's Color and Taste

Custom wine cellars are a great addition to any home.
About custom wine cellars

You are likely aware of the fact that there are green grapes, red grapes and black grapes.

Different varieties of grapes are used to make different wines.

A fact that you may not be aware of is that almost all grape juice, even from the black grapes, is either colorless or golden in color.

A wine gets its color be letting the skins of the grapes soak in the juice during fermentation.

It is actually possible to make a white wine from black grapes, if the skin of the grapes is not allowed to stay in contact with the juice. Champagne is one of the best known examples of this color concept.

When the skins of the grapes are left in the wine for a short amount of time, a rose, or blush, will be the result.

If the skins are left in for an extended amount of time, a dark red wine will be the result.

What gives each wine its specific taste

Although few ingredients are used to make wine, many things can influence the taste of the wine. One of the things that influences the taste is the variety of grape that is used. Each variety of grapes will produce different flavors, aromas and even different textures. Another factor that affects the taste is the soil and climate in which the grapes are grown. The wine maker also plays a part in the way that a wine will taste based on the technique he uses, or the storage barrels he chooses to use.

Because of all of these variables, even the most avid wine drinker will never be able to experience all of the different varieties of wine that are available on the market today. Wine tasting, for the connoisseur, will always be an adventure.
